Verna Lillian Pennington

November 8, 1928 — September 15, 2015

Verna Lillian Chafin Pennington 86, of Cow Creek, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lester “Frank” Pennington, her parents Elbert and Lucinda Curry Chafin, brothers Raymond Chafin, Willie Chafin, Elbert Chafin, Clifton Chafin, sisters Bessie Curry, and Ester Mae Hatfield. one daughter Judy Pennington Ripalda, and one special daughter in law Elizabeth “Libby” Pennington. On November 8, 1928, a beautiful baby girl was born to Elbert and Lucinda Curry Chafin.  On that day, no one could foresee what a wonderful wife and mother she would become and what a positive impact she would have on all of her children’s lives. She taught her family the true meaning of unconditional love and to above all, love God and to love and respect their fellow man.  She attended and was a member of Walnut Grove Freewill Baptist Church at Chauncey. Verna loved everyone and never failed to see the good in everyone she met.  She was happiest with her children and grandchildren by her side. She is survived by four children:  Julie (John) Propst of Cow Creek, Michael (Sherry) Pennington of Omar, Roger Pennington of Cow Creek, and Lester (Brenda) Pennington of Barnabus.  She is survived by nine grandchildren; Craig Pennington of Cow Creek, who lovingly took care of her during her illness, Vicki (Mandy) Pennington of North Carolina, Steven (Gretchen) Ripalda of Virginia, Pilar Separak (Victor) Pereira of Virginia, John (Shawn) Propst of Holden, Kim Propst (Mike) Smith of Logan, Kara Pennington of Omar, Rodney Bedford of Barnabus, Samantha (Timmy) Hooker of Barnabus. She also is survived by 16 great-grandchildren.  She is survived by one brother Kenneth (Leona) Chafin of Cow Creek. Services will be held at Walnut Grove Freewill Baptist Church at Chauncey at 1 pm on Saturday, September 19, 2015 with Pastor Charles Blankenship officiating.   Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home Friday, September 18, 2015 from 6-9 pm. Collins Funeral Home at Switzer is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences can be left atwww.collinsfuneralhomewv.com
