Richard Kenneth Evans, 86 of Wilkinson, WV departed this life on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 15, 1937, in McDowell County, WV. Those preceding him in death was his parents, Mildred and Gordon Hurd of Davy, WV, and his wife of forty-nine years, Shelby “Parks” Evans.

He was a 1955 graduate of Welch High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and stationed at Lakeland Air Force Base in Texas; then, later in Lowery Air Force Base in Colorado.

Richard worked for the Logan County School Board for thirty years as an Electronics Teacher at the R.R. Willis Vo-Tech Center. While teaching there, he started the Adult A+ Computer Program and the Robotics Program. He also collaborated with Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College to start the 2+2 program. He was also the owner and operator of Evans T.V. Sales and Services.

Those left to cherish his memories includes his three children, Mark Evans of Wilkinson, WV, Lori (Fred) Hartman of Godby Heights, and Tony (Stacy) Evans of Hidden Valley, WV; four grandchildren, Chad Evans of Westmoreland, WV, Cheyenne Evans of Hidden Valley, WV, Kristy Hartman of Omar, WV, and Freddy Hartman, Jr. of VA; great grandchildren, Brayden Evans, Chloe Nelson, Tolson Batten, and Kendrick Gaitor; his best friend and fur baby, Bo-Bo; and his wonderful and loving caregivers, Blanche and Louise.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Monahill Memorial Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, October 17, 2024, also at the church with Rev. Pat Hutchinson officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Collins Funeral Home, Inc.
