Martha Jane Tackett Whitt

October 24, 1936 — July 21, 2025

Roanoke, VA (formerly of Switzer, WV)

Martha Jane Tackett Whitt, born October 24, 1936, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Switzer, WV, received her Heavenly reward July 21, 2025, where she was gloriously reunited with her husband and soulmate, Harold Gene Whitt, and her family that had gone on before her. In addition to Gene, Jesus, and the angels, those who greeted Martha at those pearly gates included her parents, Clyde and Zelma Dean McKinney Tackett, her brothers, Billy Joe and Bobby Lee, Bobby’s wife, Shirley Keaton Tackett, her sister, Patsy Ann Brumfield and her husband, Bill, brothers-in-law, Max Gabbard Jr. and Sam Killen, her in-laws, Chester and Emma Whitt, her daughter-in-law, Margie, whom she loved dearly, special nephews, Bobby (Rusty) Tackett and Max Gabbard III, and a bonus brother and sister, Leo McKinney and Lorene McKinney Carlin. What a joyous reunion this has been!

Martha’s greatest joy was her son, Larry Gene Whitt, of Roanoke, VA, whom she adored. No one lit up her world like her “Tate” and she loved him immensely. She also had a very special niece that she considered a daughter, Andrea (Mike) Robinette of Stirrat, WV. Jane (as she was known by her family) was the best big sister to Linda Killen of Logan, WV, Kathryn Gabbard Of Spring Hill, FL, and John (Ocie) Tackett, of Charleston, WV, and the best and favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews, many of whom considered Aunt Jane to be more of a mother in their lives. Jane always played a pivotal role in the lives of those she loved, always helping to guide and mold their lives and teaching by her example of how to get to Heaven.

Her life was devoted to serving and living for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you were blessed to know or meet her this fact was obvious. Her light for Him shone brightly! She was a faithful and longtime member and leader of Stirrat Community Church in Stirrat, WV, where she served as Sunday School teacher and Choir Director as well as numerous other offices and roles.

Martha began her long and successful career with Commercial Credit in 1968 in Logan, WV. She retired as Branch Manager in 1998 and later moved to Roanoke, VA, to be closer to her “Tate”. She loved people and her little doggies and was always the best and most hospitable hostess. Her favorite thing to do was singing praises to the Lord and to hear her sing was like listening to the angels. We rejoice knowing that Heaven’s choir now sounds sweeter than ever!
