Judi Carol (Tackett) Varney, 81, of Huntingtown, MD, passed away peacefully at Winchester Medical Center in the early morning hours of August 13, 2025, surrounded and comforted by her loved ones.
Born on April 29, 1944, in Logan, West Virginia, Judi was the eldest child of Emil Edward Tackett and Virginia (Newsome) Tackett, and the oldest of five daughters.
She married Rev. Lester Varney Sr., and together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage, raising three children: Lester Jr., Melissa, and Michelle. Judi faithfully served alongside her husband as a pastor’s wife and Christian school teacher, pouring her heart into both her family and her church community.
Judi was preceded in death by her husband Lester Varney Sr. and son Lester Varney Jr., her parents Emil and Virginia Tackett, and two of her sisters: Audrey Gilliam and Delores Lester. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Melissa and Stanis Tabler and Michelle and Raymond Heverline; her two sisters and their husbands Kathy and Marlon Kasekamp and Diana and William Lowe; five beloved grandchildren: Brittanny Baum, Victoria Remsberg, Dr. Briana Tabler, Raymond Heverline Jr., and Joshua Heverline; five cherished great-grandchildren: Ashur, Kalliope, Hudson, Adalynn, and Madison. Her legacy of love, faith, and service lives on through each of them.
A woman of outspoken strength, deep faith, and unwavering devotion, Judi’s life was a living testimony to her belief in God. She served Him by serving others, never hesitating to take on a difficult task or to offer a helping hand. She boldly shared the gospel at every opportunity. Her steadfast love for her family and church will be remembered by all who knew her.

Visitation: Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 6:00–9:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 5452 Jerry W Hwy, Switzer, WV 25647.
Funeral: Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at #20 Whitman Church, 3309 Whitman Creek Rd., Whitman, WV 25652. Officiating: Rev. Joaquine Ooten
Immediately following the funeral, interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, 41 Highland Memory Ln, Chapmanville, WV 25508. Officiating Rev. Michael Whitem
Food and fellowship will follow at the #20 Whitman Fellowship Hall.
