James Edward Sparks

James Edward Sparks 85 of High Point, NC formerly of Thacker, WV departed this life Friday December 5, 2014 in High Point NC. He was born November 15, 1929 in Thacker, WV to the late Missouri (Blackburn) and Robert Sparks Sr. He was a Coal Miner, and a former member of the Church of God. James was a member in the United States Army  and served in the Korean War. James enjoyed playing his gutiar and with his dogs Tia, Fi Fi, and Snuggle Bear. Also preceding him in death is his son; Edward Marshall Sparks, three brothers; Arthur Sparks, Thomas Sparks, and Robert Sparks Jr. three grandchildren; Ira Heath Gibson, Josh Sparks, and Felicia Sparks. Those left to cherish his memories is his loving wife Essie Sparks. Two sons; James David Sparks, and Robert Irvin Sparks; two daughters; Sharon Gibson, and Sheena Osborne; and two sisters; Goldie Dotson, and Mary Lou Dawson. 12 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild  Our family will also like to thank his care-givers; Richard and Jerri Nicholes, Robert and Melissa Nicholes, and Phillip Nicholes. Services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at First Assembly of God in North Matewan with Pastor Lowell Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at The Sparks Family Cemetry  at Glen Alum WV. Visitation will be Tuesday December 9,2014 from 6-9PM at the church. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.collinsfuneralhomewv.com.

We are selfish enough to want to keep our loved ones. God is wise enough to know when to take them. May Almighty God hold you and your family in His tender care. Cherish the memories and hold them dearly. I will be forever grateful to have known such a man and was extremely proud to call him, "Uncle James!"

James was more like a brother to me than a brother-in-law. It's Quite. Our Music Has Stopped. No More Playing In My Kitchen or when he could not drive we played at his house.I Knew James Before He Married My Sister Essie Dawn And Boy Did we ever Have A Time Singing And Praying Together So My Brother R I P. Not To Worry. Some Day We Will All Sing Together Again. Amen.

You will be deeply missed by me and my family. I Love you so much Uncle James.I was there with your family in thought.I have and continue to Pray for aunt Dawn and the rest of the family. I will so miss your voice saying "Oh Buddy " and your laugh and big smile on your face.I found the C D you burned for mom back when she was in the nursing home and i would play it for her.Of you, and aunt dawn. Robert Irvin, singing back in the 70's.It just made me cry when i heard it.Your Niece.

Although I have not physically been around you guys I have always thought of you often. I love all of you and think of those precious times when we did get to see one another. Uncle James was so gifted with his musical capabilities and his Voice. He and Aunt Essie Dawn are special. I love and have kept every Christmas card and family update.
