With profound sadness and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of James Olbert also known as “JC” who departed this life on May 30, 2026, at the age of 76.
James was a man of deep faith who loved Jesus and faithfully served the Lord throughout his life. He found joy in attending church, sharing God’s love with others, and living as an example of kindness, compassion, and humility. His warm spirit, contagious smile, and unforgettable personality brought comfort and happiness to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
James dedicated much of his life to serving his community as a school bus driver and janitor. He took pride in his work and treated everyone he met with respect and care. More than any title or occupation, however, James cherished being a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply be present when someone needed him.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacqueline Olbert whom he loved dearly and whose memory he carried with him always.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory, including his children, Deairia, Curtis(Marshae), Denise, Erica, and Charlie; his grandchildren, Destiny, Trice, Romeo, Destiny G., and a host of other beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Gloria and Jackie; his sister-in-law, Rosalyn; his special friend, Holbert, David & Jerome along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by his kindness and love.
Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the legacy of faith, love, strength, and generosity that James leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife and resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord he loved so dearly.
A celebration of James’s life will be held on June 13, 2026, at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Cora, WV. The wake will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will follow in Guyan Memory Gardens in Godby, WV.
