Irene (Varney) Marcum

Irene (Varney) Marcum, 86 of Monaville, WV entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from Logan Center, Genesis Healthcare on Three Mile Curve following an extended illness.

Irene was born on December 10, 1939, the daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Jude) Varney of Kermit, WV.

Spending her retirement loving and spoiling her “Babies”, Irene last worked at Walmart for several years, which she loved.

Irene was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, affectionally known as “Nanny” to her 5 children, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and their families.

In addition to her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her husband, James Marcum; her son, Terry E. Marcum; her brothers, Ed Varney, Jennings Varney, Raymond Varney, Charles Varney and John Varney; sisters, Dorothy Pinson, Wanda Wells, and Mary Hatfield.

Irene is very much loved and missed by her family, her daughters, Margie (Pat) Hutchinson of Monaville, WV, Judy (Greg) Preece of River, KY; Lisa (Charles) Adams of Afton, TN; and Patricia (Shawn) Hanshaw of Whitman, WV. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Scott (Keshia) Hutchinson, Dana Booth, Kari (James) Casey, Sara (David) Adams, Brandon (MacKenzie) Preece and Jarred (Hallie) Adams; 6 great-grandchildren, McKenzie Booth, Sebastian Casey, Tanner Adams, Ayden Booth, Camilla Casey and Quentin Casey; one Brother, Paul Eugene Varney; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Irene is also survived by Beverly Mullins, a very special part of our family.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday October 31, 2026, at Collins Funeral Home Chapel in Switzer, WV, with her sons-in-law, Greg and Pat officiating. Friends may call after 11:00 am. Burial will follow beside her husband James, at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV.
