Gregory Dean Bates

Gregory Dean Bates, 69, of Yuma,WV passed away peacefully at home April 7, 2023.  He was born February 27,1954 to Jack and Norma Bates of McConnell, WV.  Greg was a 1972 graduate of Logan High School. He worked as a surface miner for forty-one years at Arch Coal until he retired in 2015.  After retiring, Greg enjoyed walking the trails at Chief Logan State Park, being at the beach with family and friends, and spending time with his grandkids; who they lovingly referred to as Super “G”.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Norma Bates; brother in law, George Mullins; and grandson David Anthony Allen.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Drema (Mullins) Bates; brothers, Jack (Andi) Bates of McConnell ,WV and Kevin (Conda) Bates of Melbourne, FL; brother in law, John (Debra) Mullins of Wilkinson,WV; son Justin (Jennifer) Bates of Morrow, OH; daughter, Carrie (Jesse) Allen of Genoa, WV; grandchildren, Daniel, Dylen, Levi, Hannah, and MaKenzee; and a host of nieces and nephews; along with special friends Gary and Tana Epperhart.

In order to honor Greg's wishes, a private family ceremony will be held.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
