She was born to the late Guy and Frances (Yates) Foster Sr. on October 27th, 1925 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Ethel worked at Logan General Hospital as a dietician for 35 years. She was a dedicated member of Saint Phillips Missionary Baptist Church where she also sang in the choir, and a lot people referred to her as the “Mother” of the church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Ethel enjoyed singing, everything about church, and watching sports. She loved to cook and bake for her family. She was a special lady who loved the Lord, and getting all dressed up, she had a different hat for every church event.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and the father of her son, Willie Hamilett; second husband, Rev. Cecil Murphy; five sisters, Bessie Hawkins, Judy Thomas, Jessie Sanfrancisco, Jenny Day, and Lessie Watkins; two brothers, James Foster and Guy Foster Jr.; one great granddaughter, Takya Hill; one daughter in law, June Harris; five stepchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Willie (Lesia) Hamilett; one stepson, Landau Murphy; one sister, Willie Mae Johnson; one special granddaughter that she took care of, Frances; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at Saint Phillips Missionary Baptist Church of Cora at 1:00pm with a visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Guyan Memorial on Old Logan Road. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Collins Funeral Home for her services. Collins Funeral Home of Switzer is assisting the family with arrangements.
