Edward Jerome Horton

Edward Jerome Horton departed this life on September 22, 2026. He was at home and went peacefully.

Edward was born on September 10, 1943, to the late John Paul Claude Horton and Jaqueline Slaughter. He was one of ten siblings. His former education was in Logan County. Later years, he joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a coal miner for twenty years, and worked as a construction worker in Columbia, SC for seventeen years building bridges. He was the lead singer of the “Mighty WV Harmonaries” along with singers, Peter Kelly, Paul Kelly, Frank Horton, and Harvey Horton. He also was a singer and member of the group, “The Robinhoods” where they won first place trophy in the nation. Later years, he sang for the Lord with his praise team and church family at Sulphur Springs Church and the New Beginnings Church.

He was an ordained deacon where he served many years at Sulphur Springs and New Beginnings Church in Williamson, WV under the leadership of Rev. Ronald Reynolds and current, Rev. Arva Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Ruth Horton for forty years; his brothers, Claude Jr., Harvey, Frank, David, and Dean; his sisters, Doris, Dianna, and Loretta. It was seven boys and three girls.

Edward leaves behind to cherish his memories two daughters, Dorinda and Rosario Horton; one brother, Arthur Thomas Horton; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, cousins, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 3, 2026 at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Cora, WV with Rev. Audie Murphy officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at 12:00 pm.
