Donald Gene "Donnie" Cyrus

Donald “Donnie” Gene Cyrus, 49, of Wharncliffe, WV departed this life on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Charleston Area Medical Center General Division in Charleston, WV. He was born on March 4, 1977, in Man, WV and was the son of Loretta Cyrus and Keith Johnson, and paternal father, William Cyrus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Angie Cyrus; paternal father, William Cyrus; and nephew, Austin Coleman.

He had a God-given gift for drawing, and with a pencil in his hand he could turn plain paper into something special. He never met many strangers and could cut up and joke with the best of them. He loved making people smile and keeping spirits high. His laugh and sense of humor could brighten even the hardest days. He loved the outdoors and felt most at home in the hills, hunting in the woods or fishing on the water. More than anything, he was a giving man. He would help anybody he could, never asking for much in return. That giving spirit stayed with him until the very end. In his final act on this earth, he chose to be an organ donor, giving others a second chance at life.

Those left to cherish his loving memory includes his mother, Loretta Cyrus (Keith Johnson); two sons, Donovan Cyrus and Michael Cyrus; brother, Kenneth Cyrus; sister, Billie “BJ” Cyrus; half-sister, Billie jean Smith; granddaughter, Maliah Cyrus; nieces, Samantha Kinser and Jacey Harris; nephew, Carl Brewer, III.; special friends, Erica Stanley, Brandon “Greaser” Morgan, and Virgil “Lum” Lester; and a host of other family and friends who will all love and miss him.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Freedom Full Gospel Assembly at Hampden, WV with Pastor Cab Wolford officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alum Cemetery in Glen Alum, WV. Pallbearers will include Carl Brewer, Jr., Wesley Marsingill, Brandon “Greaser” Morgan, Kenneth Cyrus, Jackie Sheppard, Billy Donley, Jr., and David Breeding. Honorary pallbearers will include Virgil “Lum” Lester, Donovan Cyrus, and Michael Cyrus.

A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral service at 11:00 am.
