Billy James "Poochie" Mitchem

Billy James “Poochie” Mitchem, 50 of Switzer, WV departed this life peacefully at his residence on Monday, September 29, 2025.

He was proceeded in death by his mothers, Sandra Mitchem and Brenda Mitchem; maternal grandparents, Bill, and Opal Plumley; and paternal grandparents, Howard and Nancy Mitchem.

He is survived by his father, Jimmy Mitchem (Lana Crum) of Monaville; the love of his life, Shawna Marie Mitchem; his son, Jimmy George Mitchem who was his pride and joy; brothers, Donny (Stephanie) Plumley of Barboursville, Doug (Beth) Cline of McConnell, and Steven Mitchem of Switzer; sister, Laura (Craig Pennington) Mitchem of Cow Creek; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; his special lifelong friend, Seneca Dempsey of North Carolina; and Melvin Lowe of Omar.

Poochie loved life. He enjoyed music and was an avid guitar player. He loved his family, and his son, Jimmy George who was his whole world. He never met a stranger and will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held in his memory at 6:00 pm Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Christian Fellowship Church of God at Cow Creek with Pastors CD Wolford and Danny Woods officiating.
