Rev. Alfred Francis Setser, 93 years old, of Rossmore WV departed this life on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025. He was born on April 16th, 1932 to the late Everett and Gladys Setser, and was the oldest of 11 kids. He was born and raised in Martin County, KY.
He moved to WV to work in coal mines when he was 19 years old - spent around 30 years in the coal mines. Alfred joined church in 1957. He & his wife, Lula Bell started singing with John McCoy as the “Calvary Trio”. Alfred started preaching in 1963. He held revivals and preached all around WV. He also had a radio program on WLOG & WVOW which ran for 48 years. Alfred loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and ginsenging. His son, Earl tried to keep up with him in the hills but just couldn’t quite do it! He didn’t have any major health problems, just old age.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Bell and second wife, Lois Shadd; five brothers; four sisters.; two children, Colleen and Alfred Jr.
Those left to cherish his loving memory include his son, Earl Setser of Rossmore, WV; two brothers, Clarence Setser of Tomahawk, KY, Donnie Setser of Bay City, MI; three grandchildren, Earl Jason (Marybeth) Setser of Verdunville, WV, Craig (Nickie) Setser of Summerville, SC, and Kaitlin Dawn Setser of Summerville, SC; five great-grandchildren; friends, and especially his buddies, Phillip Farley, Rev. Joe Lane, and Jerry Adams - they were there for him in his last days.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Sunday, August 17th, 2025 at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Setser Family Cemetery in Tomahawk, KY.
